Module #1.9.1

Create, name and rename subdirectories and folders

Getting there

This is a bunch of information.  First we'll deal with naming and then go back to creating.
Please do not try renaming until you have gone to the exercise to create your own directory (folder).

Renaming:

WINDOWS: Go into windows explorer (if you don't know how, click here to review module 1.8.1 which covers this topic).   Find a folder on the right side of the screen, click once on the name of the folder.  Holder your mouse still over the name, and click once more.  Type the new name after the name becomes highlighted.  (See Below)  Press "ENTER" on the keyboard to lock the name in.name.jpg (16249 bytes)

MAC: Open the hard drive (or a floppy or network drive)  point at a folder, click once, hold the mouse still over the name of the folder and wait for the name to become highlighted.  Type the new name and press "RETURN" on the keyboard.

CREATING!!!!!!

WINDOWS: Open Windows Explorer. Click on the directory that will hold your new folder (on the left side of the screen).  Go to the menu bar and choose "FILE"  Then "NEW" and "FOLDER".  A new folder will appear on the right side with a highlighted name.  Type the correct name for your new folder. Press "ENTER" to lock the name in.

MAC: Open the disk you would like to work on.  Open a window for the folder that will hold a new folder.  From the menu bar, choose "FILE" and "NEW FOLDER".  A folder titled "UNTITLED FOLDER" will appear in the open window.  Type a new name and press "RETURN" on the keyboard to lock the name in.

Exercise #1

Create a folder in a directory of your choice, name this new folder "BOB".   Then change the name to "TIM".  Repeat this process placing the new folder into a different location each time.  When you are finished, drag each of your new folders into the Trash Can (or Recycle Bin).
