Module # 2.6.1

Install an Application

Getting there

I know, you always thought that you filed applications! (that was supposed to be a joke)

Follow these steps:
1) remove any excess files and other junk from your computer.
2) if possible, run a disk defragmenting program to compact what is left.
3) WINDOWS: go into control panels and double click on "Add/remove programs" then click on the "INSTALL" button. follow the directions. If this doesn't work, read the directions that came with the program.
3) MAC: find the file called "INSTALLER" on the installation disks. Double click on it.
4) carefully read any information displayed on the screen while installation is occurring.
5) make the right choice. Most programs come with default settings, use these unless you are sure you want to do something special.

IMPORTANT!!!!

Most programs now place files in several locations on your computer. If you just delete the major files, your computer may have some problems. Wherever possible, you should run the uninstall program. (WINDOWS: go back to the Add/remove programs icon in Control panels. There is a list of applications that you can uninstall.)

Exercise #1

I would tell you to install a program, but the lab manager would get really upset. If you are using Windows, try to find the install button as described above.
