Preparing to hop!

In your community there are many historic places.  Some of them are important to the local community and others are important to the whole state.

Places that are important to the whole state can be marked with a historic roadside marker (they are usually tall metal signs that are engraved).

To learn more about the markers, click on this link.

Now the next step is to find a historic roadside marker in your community.  Once you have identified one, you will need to find more information on the location it marks.

For instance find out if there are any buildings remaining.  Find the names of famous people who were involved with this site.  Also find on a map (or using a gps receiver) the latitude and longitude of the marker in degrees and minutes.

Don't forget to research the distance to the nearest railroad and river (of course find the names of those as well...it would be best if you could find the names they were given in those days).

Once you have all this information, let your teacher see it.  The teacher will tell you were to go from there
