Getting there
How do you do cool things to spreadsheet cells? Its simple, click
on a cell in the spreadsheet. Then use the FORMAT menu and choose CELLS. You
should see something like this:
There are several tabs to choose from. Simply click on the tab and make the
adjustments.
Number = the way numbers appear
Alignment = how the contents of the cells sit
Font = the shape of the characters in the cell
Border = lines around the cell
Patterns = the coloring and shading of the cell
Protection = control over the ability to change the contents of a cell.
Cool huh? Lets look at the tricky ones!
You can see the list. Notice that you can adjust the number of decimal places.
Also notice that you can choose how negative numbers show up, red, or in
parenthesis, or both.
This will allow you to set up cells that can not be changed. It looks simple, but
read the directions!
Exercise #1
Open your spreadsheet program (we've been looking at Microsoft Excel). Set up a
spreadsheet like this:
